Vouchers available
Dear San Bernardino Mountain Realtor:
I am pleased to share good news for the New Year! The Mountain Homeless Coalition has successfully assisted more than 20 mountain residents in obtaining Emergency Housing Vouchers. The Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) Program is federally funded and administered by the Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino. The EHV program provides rental assistance to low-income families renting units in the private market.
Landlords are now desperately needed to join the effort to provide safe and quality affordable housing. By leasing a unit to an EHV customer, landlords are helping to benefit our low-income elderly and disabled (SS & SSI) to obtain safe, stable housing. We are confident that our local realtors can help us identify landlords who would accept the vouchers and provide a home for our mountain neighbors.
As landlord participation is such a critical component of the EHV program, a $1,000 Landlord Signing Bonus is available for new lease-ups. In addition to the bonus, the Housing Authority guarantees rental assistance for up to 9-years, provided the tenant remains in the unit; security deposits up to twice the monthly rent; direct deposits for on-time, convenient rental payments; free biennial unit inspections; access to online landlord portal with information about payments, and inspection results. The owner maintains control of all aspects of management, maintenance, and lease enforcement.
- The tenant pays 30% of their income direct to the landlord. Federal funds directly paid by the Housing Authority to the landlord completes the rent.
- The Mountain Homeless Coalition has several board members across the mountain ready to connect landlords with voucher holders in their community.
